Keltec KMDAD Desiccant Compressed Air Dryers

ProAirSupply offers Keltec KMDAD modular desiccant air dryers for industrial compressed air systems requiring significantly reduced moisture levels. The KMDAD series uses activated alumina desiccant and is designed to provide a pressure dew point of -40°F under rated operating conditions.

KMDAD desiccant dryers are available in capacities from 3 to 240 SCFM for applications where refrigerated air drying alone may not provide a sufficiently low dew point.

Why Use a Desiccant Compressed Air Dryer?

Desiccant air dryers are used when compressed air must be dried to a lower dew point than is typically achieved with refrigerated air dryers. Reducing moisture in a compressed air system can help protect piping, pneumatic equipment, instrumentation, controls, and moisture-sensitive processes.

KMDAD Series Features

  • -40°F pressure dew point under rated operating conditions
  • Activated alumina desiccant for moisture removal
  • Modular construction for industrial compressed air applications
  • Floor or wall mounting capability
  • Mini PLC monitor displays the drying and regeneration cycle
  • Maximum working pressure: 230 PSI
  • Maximum inlet temperature: 122°F
  • Maximum ambient temperature: 122°F

KMDAD Dryer Capacity Correction Factors

Published KMDAD capacities are based on standard operating conditions of 100 PSI operating pressure and 100°F inlet temperature. Actual operating conditions should be considered when selecting the appropriate dryer size.

Operating Pressure Correction Factor

Pressure (PSI) 50 60 70 80 90 100 110 120 130 140 150 175 200 225 250
Factor F1 0.56 0.65 0.74 0.83 0.91 1.00 1.06 1.08 1.12 1.16 1.20 1.29 1.37 1.45 1.52

Inlet Temperature Correction Factor

Inlet Temperature (°F) 70 80 90 100 105 110 115 120
Factor F2 1.12 1.09 1.06 1.00 0.93 0.86 0.80 0.75

How to Size a KMDAD Desiccant Air Dryer

To determine the required dryer capacity, divide the required system airflow by the applicable pressure correction factor and inlet-temperature correction factor:

Required Dryer Capacity = Required Airflow ÷ Pressure Factor (F1) ÷ Inlet Temperature Factor (F2)

For example, a system requiring 100 CFM at 100 PSI with a 110°F inlet temperature uses a pressure factor of 1.00 and an inlet-temperature factor of 0.86:

100 ÷ 1.00 ÷ 0.86 = approximately 116 CFM

The next suitable listed dryer capacity is the KMDAD-120 .

Selecting the Correct Desiccant Air Dryer

When selecting a KMDAD dryer, consider required airflow, operating pressure, inlet temperature, connection size, electrical supply, and the required pressure dew point. Dryer capacity should be corrected for actual operating conditions before selecting a model.
